About Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (ASDC):

 
Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (ASDC) is a local NGO, established in 1992 in Gaza City, in order to help persons with hearing disability in the Gaza Strip to have their chance in life through education, rehabilitation, and job training and employment opportunities.  From its establishment as a small school for the students with hearing disability serving 27 pupils in 1992, Atfaluna now serves more than 40,000 persons with and without disabilities annually through a multitude of interventions and training programs implemented within a holistic and inclusive approaches involving children and adults with and without disabilities, their families, service providers, organizations, and the community-at-large.
 
Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children is inviting applications from qualified persons for the post of Advocacy Projects Officer.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Required Knowledge & Competencies:

  1. Clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls with and without disabilities
  2. Clear understanding and experience in working with women and girls with disabilities
  3. Familiar with UNCRPD convention for persons with disabilities
  4. Able to maintain confidentiality and ethics and respect for clients at all times.
  5. Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization
  6. Able to lead, train, supervise, facilitate and motivate GBV Community Workers in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner
  7. Positive, highly motivated, innovative, with strong organizational and inter-personal skills.
  8. Able to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining attention to quality and detail. 
  9. Able to work as part of a team.
  10. Strong knowledge of computer applications, including MS Word and Excel.
  11. Willing to work in emergency situations.
  12. Fluency in English, including writing clear and concise reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Advocacy Projects Implementation:

  1. Update and follow up on ASDC’s strategic advocacy plan
  2. Develop advocacy/ projects plans and budgets and ensure that they are on line with the strategic advocacy plan
  3. Participating in developing project proposals and ensure mainstreaming of persons with disability interest on planned interventions 
  4. Contribute to projects documentation
  5. to conduct advocacy related capacity building for staff and partners Contribute with the M&E officer In Establishment of advocacy monitoring and evaluation systems including indicators
  6. Actively participate in project events (meetings/workshops/trainings)
  7. Undertake other program administration tasks as and when necessary
  8. Ensure transparency, ethical conduct and efficiency in project implementation 
  9. Reporting on advocacy/ project activities as requested by ASDC management and donors and according to the advocacy projects timeframes
  10. Preparing of monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  11. Report any of changes which impact to the advocacy/ project implementation
  12. Support ASDC to start up and implementation of the projects with good and adequate understanding of terms and conditions of projects agreement.
  13. Introduce better integration of gender related aspects to the work plans of ASDC and ensure that activities are implemented, recorded, reported and analyzed to improve the gender equality situation
  14. Undertake regular field trips to the project sites with the purpose of performing monitoring assessments; develop reports and make a follow up on recommendations

Advocacy/Advancing A Policy-Oriented Agenda

  • Preparing information for advocacy
  1. Based on Atfaluna’s mandate, identify those groups in severe marginalization (through desk review and communication with stakeholders)
  2. Set advocacy priorities using participatory approach with beneficiaries and other stakeholder
  3. Maintain a functioning network of contacts with a variety of stakeholders and support ASDC in building alliances to promote a better understanding of ASDC’s mandate and to support its advocacy efforts 
  • Building Strategic Partnerships
  • Maintaining a network of contacts
  1. Maintain an established network of contacts for general information sharing and to remain up-to-date on partnership related issues
  2. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders in order to carry out advocacy activities related to Atfaluna advocacy priorities
  • Promoting Organizational Learning and Knowledge Sharing
    • Basic research and analysis
  1. Generate new ideas and approaches, researches best practices and propose new, more effective ways of doing things
  2. Document and analyses innovative strategies and new approaches
  • Resource Mobilization
    • Providing inputs to resource mobilization strategies
Analyze information/databases on potential and actual donors
  • Global Leadership and Advocacy for ASDC’s Goals
    • Preparing information for global advocacy
Identify and communicate relevant information for advocacy for ASDC’s goals for a variety of audiences

Qualifications:


  1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, English literature, international relations or public policy is required
  2. At least three, and preferably five years professional experience coordinating and executing internal and external advocacy project preferably in internationally- or humanitarian-focused organizations
  3. Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills and the ability to perform in stressful situations with tight deadlines are essential
  4. Familiarity with international humanitarian issues and key actors specially those are related to the persons with disabilities rights  
  5. Proficiency in English is highly desired
