Project Assistant / Site Engineer - Save the Children

  • Contract type: National

        The Site Engineer is part of the project’s team and will contribute to the successful implementation of the emergency WASH programme. The position holder will be responsible for the successful quality implementation of construction of gravity sewage pipeline in North Gaza. The post holder will work in close coordination with SCI Programme team and the project’s partners.

        In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the post holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

        In order to be successful you will bring/have:

        KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

        Key Area 1: IMPLEMENTATION


        1. Day-to-day follow up of activities in the field and implementation according to the plans.
        2. Assist in checking specifications for the procured material.
        3. Follow up the quality of implementation in the field, ensuring safety conditions.
        4. Participate and assist in the process of supply and install of construction of gravity sewage pipeline in North Gaza.
        5. Ensuring the quality of supplied materials in accordance with local applied standards.
        6. Review the contractor’s daily and weekly reports.

        Key Area 2: Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)


        1. Ensure that that implementation takes place according to the project implementation and MEAL plans.
        2. Coordinate with project partners at the field level.
        3. Actively participate in the regular project meetings.
        4. Assist in the documentation of lessons learnt, best practice and case studies.
        5. Work closely with the Programme Officer to ensure preparation of timely and high quality reports.

        Key Area 3: COMMUNICATION


        1. Assist in the preparation and coordination for any field visits related to the project activities.
        2. Support Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications and Media (ACCM) team in content preparation of success stories and case studies. Effectively communicate with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) programme plans, progress and challenges.
        3. Ensure adequate filing and documentation for the entire project related field activities (documents, records, daily visits).

        Key Area 4: GENERAL


        • Contribute and participate in emergency response activities as per the early action plan and the direction of the line manager.
        Perform other responsibilities reasonable to level of skills and experience, in agreement with the line manager based on changes in operational environment and urgent organizational needs.

        QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

        • Bachelor degree in civil engineering from accredited university

        Essential

        1. 1- 3 years’ experience as a civil engineer and involvement in infrastructure projects.
        2. Good experience in preparing the bid documents, engineering designs, and price analysis
        3. Ability to work as part of a team as well as to work autonomously when required. Good communication and interpersonal skills, team-oriented work style, interest and experience of working in a multicultural environment.
        4. Flexible and willing to work long working hours where necessary.
        5. Commitment to Save the Children values.
        6. Valid Driving Licence.

                          Desirable:

                          1. Demonstrated good experience in using computerized engineering programmes.
                          2. Experience in WASH programme implementation with/in INGO.
                          3. Good reporting skills
