PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
Gaza Sky Geeks (GSG) is Gaza’s leading co-working space, tech education hub, and startup accelerator, run by Mercy Corps, a nonprofit international relief and development organization with programs in the occupied Palestinian territories since the 1980s. Mercy Corps founded GSG in partnership with Google.org in 2011. We bring together online freelancers, outsourcers, and startup founders together under one roof to share ideas, best practices, code, and build brighter futures through the power of the internet. Gaza Sky Geeks’ overarching goal is to build an internationally competitive technology ecosystem in Gaza through online freelancing, outsourcing, and startups.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an energetic, responsible, passionate intern to join our Community team. In this position, he/she will be expected to learn the ins-and-outs of our regular work/program implementation. The intern will be focusing on helping on managing the community communication channels by creating the content, managing the channels members activities, analyze the channels reach and activities, engage the online community and respond to the community needs .
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Mange the community and social media communications channels:
- Responsible for managing the community Facebook group
- Accepting and deny members depending on the group roles
- Accepting and deny posts depending on the group roles
- Create the group content and response to the members requests
- Develop the group description and roles
- Make analysis on the Facebook group reach and interactions
- Responsible for managing the Discord community channels
- Create the community content
- Assign the roles for the community members
- Support on creating discord channels and roles
- Develop Code of Conduct for the extenall community to join the wider community channel
- Analysis on Gaza Sky Geeks Discord reach and interactions
- Follow up with the GSG Discord champions to make sure the alumni added to discord
- Social media engagement (Facebook & Instagram):
- Respond to incoming messages - or assign to Community Champions
- Respond to comments and engage in conversation on posted content
- Reply to the community questions, requests and feedback on the Facebook page messages
- Support on managing the CARM related messages on the Social Media Platforms
- Support on create and develop the FAQs for the Website and SM use
- Support on the community onboarding materials
- Support comms team with content creation for social media
- Document recurring questions and themes arising - which should feed into content creation strategy
- Stay on top of trends and relevant topics occurring within the community and across fields related to verticals / programmes.
- Support on the online and digital outreach aspect to the community activities
- Assist the Community Care Officer with ad-hoc requests as required to develop and support the Community Building function within GSG

ACCOUNTABILITY
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Community Care Officer
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Community team, Comms team and the Wider GSG team and Mercy Corps Operations departments
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
Team members, service contractors, volunteers, and interns are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
- At least one year of proven work experience in Social Media management, Digital Marketing and content writing.Work experience in community building and management is a plus.
- Has an emotional intelligence and ability to navigate sensitive situations.
- Excellent oral and written English skills.
- Lead or volunteered in any community based activities or initiative (Preferable if Social Media related).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse groups.
- Excellent time management.
- Passionate about building and developing the community.
- Ability to improve and evolve while working on different aspects.
- Can work under pressure and is flexible on working out of the regular working hours if needed.

- Ability to work in a flat, fast paced environment with others who are passionate about supporting Gaza’s technology ecosystem.
- Comfort with uncertainty and change—GSG is a rapidly changing program. Just like our program, we seek staff who are adaptable and pitch in on what needs to be done.

- Has experience related to Training Field, either as an organizer or a Trainer, being An alumni of GSG technical training is a plus
