Operations Department provides key support to the entire country program in procurement, asset management, warehouse management, fleet management and facilities & office management for successful program implementation.  

The Position 

The Procurement Intern is responsible for facilitating the procurement aspects of Mercy Corps’ procurement operation.  Working closely with Program, Administration, Finance and Logistics, the Procurement Intern is instrumental in supporting program activities through their services.   

Essential Responsibilities  :

  1. Conduct WB procurement activities, including completing purchase requests and other documents, collecting quotations/bids, interacting with vendors, and updating the Procurement Database and other files. Support in receiving, opening bids/quotations, preparing evaluation documents when needed.
  2.  Ensure that all payment documents are reviewed/complete and signed by the relevant staff/beneficiaries and submitted to the finance department.
  3. Supports requestors to prepare complete Procurement Requisition Forms.
  4. Maintain and update suppliers list by collecting Supplier Information Forms (SIF).
  5. Provide support for the procurement officers as needed.
  6. Visits suppliers (company site, stores, and/or production facilities) to collect information and price offers and signing documents as needed.
Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders
  1. Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
  1. Formal qualification in a relevant business field is desired.
  2. No experience needed/Fresh graduate.
  3. Good oral and written English skills.
  4. Good computer skills on MS Office programs, especially in MS Excel.
  5. A clear understanding of procurement ethics and donor compliance is essential.
Success Factors
The successful Procurement intern will assist procurement tasks in delivering successful programs while demonstrating excellent stewardship of donor funds and compliance with Mercy Corps and donor regulations. They will maintain strong cooperative relationships with other departments and interact effectively with international and national personnel both in a managerial and training capacity while demonstrating the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities. The most successful Mercy Corps staff members have a solid commitment to teamwork and accountability, thrive in evolving and changing environments and make effective written and verbal communication a priority in all situations.
