Responsibilities

  1. Supports the mainstreaming of protection principles and standards in UNRWA service delivery and programmes including but not limited through the protection alignment review.
  2. Undertakes integrated assessments according to standard operating procedures in close coordination with other programme staff (including school principals, chief medical officers, chief area officers and other installations managers).
  3. Conducts regular field missions to gather information and data on protection issues in order to analyse and report on the protection context and specific issues encountered in the field.
  4. Identifies emerging areas of concern as a basis for informing programmatic and advocacy responses.
  5. Contributes to designing a comprehensive protection strategy by providing technical support and inputs (including in the areas of humanitarian principles, general protection, gender-based-violence, child protection and disabilities).
  6. Builds and maintains relationships with a broad network of stakeholders (including local authorities, UN agencies and NGOs as well as beneficiaries and other persons of concern) who can contribute to protection responses for Palestine refugees.
  7. Provides/supports external briefings on protection to various interlocutors as required.
  8. Supports the delivery of trainings to UNRWA personnel on humanitarian principles and protection as required.
  9. Prepares reports, briefings, and training materials as required and conducts oral and written translations of Arabic and English where required.
  10. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor(s).

Education

  • A university degree from a recognized university-level academic institution, preferably in social sciences, political affairs, international relations, law, or a related field.

Work Experience

It is required to have at least four years of relevant experience, preferably in protection, human rights, humanitarian/relief emergency operations, or other related discipline.

Languages

*Good Working knowledge of English.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of humanitarian principles.
  2. Strong knowledge in protection (GBV, child protection, disability inclusion).
  3. Competency in data collection and analysis
  4. Familiarity with key business tools (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook).
  5. High interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Possession of a valid driving license is an advantage.

Special Notice

Contract Type & Duration:
Limited Duration Contract, 1 year, renewable (depending on the need, performance and the funding availability)

Conditions of service:

  • The monthly basic salary shall be 1,713.80 US$ at Band F.
  • Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.
